According to Garre district report of 1902, the Borana
headman of 3o slave killed a man called Sheriff Nur, an Arab individual and
took over the administration of the district. Then this Borana headman married
the captured Sheriff Nur’s wife and from this marriage the borana King Gedo
descends. This Borana ruler is half Arab and he is said to be very light skin
in complex than other boranas and also has special skills as priesthood for
religious ceremonies. Keeping as familiars some large and semi sacred snakes
for religious and ceremonial purpose.
Before, that the Mandera District or Gharri district was
inhabited by the Semitic tribe known as the 2ben Izraeli or Madinli. These people
were very tall and had long prominent noses which enable them to smell water a
considerable distance underground. They extended beyond Wajir and Dug the wells
there and also those at Wergadud, Eil illi, Hogerali, Goochi, and other places
in this district. The numerous graves along the Daua River are also theirs, and
their last strong hold was Hambali, near Gerba Harre, where the stone walls of their
town can still be seen.
